Guernsey Cricket Restructures Junior Cricket for U11's, U13s and U15s

2017 will see a major restructure in how we run local junior cricket.

In recent years, the transition from junior to senior cricket has never fully worked as it should do.
We have tried various initiatives, which have struggled for a variety of reasons, we have also learnt a lot from it.

Children play sport for several reasons and study has always shown that the overriding factors are to play with or against their friends and to have fun.

2017 will see a complete change and we wanted to outline this for you.

Basic Overview

What are we trying to achieve?

  • To provide a clear, structured transitional pathway from the beginner in year 1 through to the Guernsey National team and beyond
  • To provide a club structure where players feel a sense of belonging and commitment to an environment which encourages fun, excellence, and self-improvement

We are going to create three, potentially four clubs, using the current weekend league clubs.
Each of those clubs will have a Chairman, Lead Coach, Specific Coaches and a bank of Volunteer Coaches.

There will be U11 (Selected Year 4, Year 5 & Year 6 Players), U13 (Year 7 & & Players) & U15 (Year 9 & 10) teams.
Each one of the age groups will have A, B and potentially C teams to encourage participation regardless of experience.
The clubs will have child welfare officers, registration, playing kit, codes of conduct and constitutions.
They will operate under a Guernsey Cricket Board Club Mark system designed to put the player first.

Guernsey Cricket are really excited about this new initiative and cant wait to see some great competition over the summer.
